Gawad Urian, which is now on its 31st year favors Philippine Independent film more than the mainstream Philippine movies. This could mean that Pinoy indie film is more widely accepted now and the critics are taking notice. Recognition is also an indication that the Philippine independent film industry has matured.

Piracy has become a salient feature of Philippine society and no doubt of both developing and developed countries. Movie and digital media piracy is here to stay.

Kudos to Filipino independent film makers Jerrold Tarog and Ruel Antipuesto. Their movie “Confessional” won the Best Film in the category of First Features at the 10th Osian’s Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema in New Delhi on July 19, 2008.
