Movie piracy in the Philippines is big thing in the Philippines. People do not want to spend P130-P200 pesos for just watching movies. If they started watching all of the good movies out there, we’d run out of money! So, people settle for the next best thing — movie piracy in the form of DVDs and CDs. There are other sources of movie piracy actually and people can start getting media content for free!

In the Philippines, it’s just easy to get access to pirated DVDs and CDs of software and movies. You just have to know the places where these pirates are so you can get access to dirt cheap pirated software and movies. You just have to watch over your shoulders because the operatives of the Optical Media Board headed by the scary Chairman Edu Manzano might raid the place anytime.

Piracy has become a salient feature of Philippine society and no doubt of both developing and developed countries. Movie and digital media piracy is here to stay.

Kudos to Filipino independent film makers Jerrold Tarog and Ruel Antipuesto. Their movie “Confessional” won the Best Film in the category of First Features at the 10th Osian’s Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema in New Delhi on July 19, 2008.
