Nabuong ti Langit (Heaven is Broken)

Di ka agdumdumog
Agtangadka ketdi. Kitaem dagiti
Maregreg a pedaso
Ti nabuong a langit.
Bay-am ti lam-ek
Di mo balkoten ta rupam
Di mo abungotan
Wenno rikpan
Dagita matam.

Kitaem dagiti kaykayo
Nagpanawanen ti amin a maris
Ti berde wenno duyaw
Uray nalabaga awanda a padapada.
Ti laeng puraw ken kayumanggi ti nabati
Nangruna ti puraw—
Niebe a yetnag
Ti nabuong a langit
Kadagiti sanga, kasla ima,
Nga agpalpalama
Iti panagsubli
Ti maris
Ti bara
Ti biag.

Ituloymo ti magna
Iti daga a naparabawan ti yelo
Kastoy ngata ti magna iti rabaw
ti danum?
Adayo ti Galilea; awan met bilog
Ditoy. Awan pay pasurotmo
A mangriing kenka manipud
iti nauneg a pannaturog
ti panunot
ti dara
ti riknam.

Daytoy ti panawen ti panagsagaba
Awan ti rutap a makainda
Iti lamiis—

Yantangay ta nabuong ti langit
Ket agtintinnag ti puraw a lulua
A pinatangkenen ti panagmaymaysa.

And here is the rough English translation. Again, this isn’t perfect but for now this will have to do.

The Broken Sky

Don’t look down
Lift your head up and see
all the falling pieces
of the broken sky.
Forget the cold
Don’t use the scarf
Don’t cover your face
or even think
of closing your eyes.

Look at the trees
Left behind by the colors
green and yellow
Even red are all gone now
All that’s left are white and brown
specially white:
snow that falls–
pieces of the broken sky–
on the branches, like hands
begging for alms
for the return
of the colors
of the heat
of life.

Keep on walking
on the ice above the ground
is this how it feels to walk
on water?
Galilee is far away; no boats
are here. No disciples
To wake you up
from the deep slumber
of your mind
of your blood
of your heart.

This is the time for suffering
No coat can stand
the cold

For the sky is broken
And white tears are falling
frozen by loneliness.
