Movies in Manila on January 2009
There’s no snow in the Philippines but boy! The cold weather can really punch you in the gut if you don’t have a good jacket in the afternoon. It can also hug you so tight in the morning that you can’t get up!
The 34th Metro Manila Film Festival is almost at an end, but you can still watch your favorite Filipino movies if you haven’t done so.
We just love Philippine movies don’t we?! We support them so much.
But I’m sure a lot of you are just glad that the season for the exclusive run of Metro Manila Film Festival entries is at an end. Welcome back Hollywood!
Speaking of Hollywood, here’s the list of movies being shown in Cinemas across the Metro. Please check out the websites of these cinemas for the screening schedules.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The story’s really curious! Imagine Brad Pitt’s character being born as a man born with the frail body of an eighty year old. More curiously, he ages backwards! He then watches his life and events unfold from New Orleans down to World I and then to the end of the twentieth century. He dies as a really young boy in the arms of, unbeknown to him, his daughter.
Watch the Curious Case of Benjamin Button movie trailer below.
The Transporter 3
Did you remember the first Transporter movie with Shu Qi and her terribly accented English. I heard her English has improved since but she’s no longer with the third installment of the Transporter. Jason Statham as the suave and ass-kicking chauffeur with his uber-ass-kicking car is back! This time with more action, fight scenes and chase-and-kill!
Bedtime Stories
Finally, the kids might just be able to watch Adam Sandler’s movie. I didn’t watch “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” but I know for sure that it wasn’t meant for kids.
Sandler ties up with Disney with this movie. It’s about a guy telling stories to his nephew. But surpise! His stories do come true. It has one major drawback though! The kids get to control the story. Too bad uncle! Bring your kids to the cinema for a different kind of chill. Here’s the Bedtime Stories trailer.
The Spirit
I have mix feelings about the Spirit. One look at the trailer would make it seem revolutionary. But then again, I kind feel that it might not work with the moviegoers in the Philippines. Anyways, it’s the story of Denny Colt, the newbie cop in Central City who died. And came back to life. But he came back as a new man or a Spirit rather. Now, all he wants to do is to hunt the Octopus, a sinister killer. He hooks up with a few beautiful and mysterious women while doing his hunting.
Here’s the movie trailer of The Spirit!
My dear friends, Hollywood is back and while some of the MMFF films are still being shown, these new, albeit delayed, films to be shown are going to overshadow some of the box office records of the MMFF movies. Well… that’s life. It doesn’t really matter where you watch–Trinoma, SM Cinema, Robinsons Movieworld, Glorietta, Gateway Cineplex, SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, Starmall, Walter-Mart, or Greenbelt Cinemas.
But please, whenever you can, do support quality Filipino movies!
A lot of Philippine movies suck! But let’s explore and support those that are not!

Thanks!

Hi Mighty!
We actually saw Bedtime Stories already and sad to say even the kids might find this not amusing at all!
Adam Sandler jokes just doesn’t mix with Kid centered films!
Hi Ayel! Thanks for dropping by! As soon as I watch the movie, I will post my review of Benjamin Button so stay tuned!
@ReelAdvice. Whew! That was a disappointment! I’m off to your blog to read your review!
last year MMFF really sucks, i watched all entry except Desperadas 2 coz i dont have any single reason to watch that kind of flick, Ruffa and Marian are enough for me not to watch that movie… anyway Best Actor Christopher De Leon… Ok!…. Best Actress Anne Curtis… Sige na nga nagiimprove naman sya
Hey Minor, thanks for you comment. I didn’t watch a lot of movies last year. This year, I just watched Dayo and Baler. I kinda hate formula movies so I just avoided some of the MMFF entries. I would have watched Desperadas 2 were it not for Ogie Diaz. I thought having him there was kinda stupid.
