Spain prevails against Germany at Euro 2008

Spain’s football team is no longer the butt of jokes because of its previously poor performance in European Football. Last weekend, Spain scored 3 goals against Russia’s 0 in the semi-finals. Imagine, Spain’s last championship fight was in 1964! They’ve come a long way.
Spain defeated Germany with a score of 1-0 in favor of Spain! They have ended their 44-year quest for a championship! Good thing for Spain, Xavi Hernandez is hailed as the best player of Euro 2008.
Football is to Europeans as Basketball is to Filipinos. I’m not too sure why football isn’t popular in the Philippines. Maybe because there are a lot of body contact. if you watch basketball, you’ll see brawls and quarrels in the court because of body contact, whether intentional or not.
Besides, Football needs large tracks of lands and good stadiums with lots of grass. If companies start spending on such stadiums, the activists will cry out that the money spent there should be given to the poor.
So much for Sports. I’m not a very sportsminded person, myself. But sports really capture the attention of a nation. Look at American baseball, Filipino Basketball and European football.
Oh well, maybe if we get rich as a nation, football may become extremely famous. For now, let’s just enjoy PC and console games in enjoying Football.
