Cinemanila International Film Festival is now on its tenth year! It has earned its reputation as one of the best Festivals to bring the best of world cinema to the Philippine shores. Cinemanila 2008 will run from October 16-29, 2008 at the Cineplex 10 of Gateway, Araneta Center at Cubao, Quezon City. Php 1 Million in prizes await the best movies from the Philippines and the rest of the world.
Araneta Center, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Film Development Council of the Philippines join the Independent Cinema Association of the Philippines in bringing about this historic event.
Cinemanila started out in 1999. Since then, it has catapulted the career of fledgling filmmakers. The list of previous Cinemanila Film festival winners includes Lav Diaz, Raya Martin and John Torres among others. These filmmakers have since then proven their mettle in the Philippine Film Industry.
Cinemanila remains undisputed as the Philippines’ best international film festival. It is promoting awareness of what the cinema of other countries can offer to the Philippines. Since the country is largely dependent on Hollywood films, Cinemanila brings a breather to the Pinoy film industry. Ten years hence and Cinemanila’s advocacy for independent film continues to bear fruit. This year’s Cinemanila is bound to make waves again here and abroad.
