Bite the Mango Film Festival in the United Kingdom
Ambulancia by Richard Legaspi and Shorts by Seymour Barros Sanchez were chosen to be part of Bite the Mango Film Festival to be held in September 19-25 at the National Media Museum in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. Bite the Mango has been around since 1995. It has featured Asian and Black filmmakers in the UK. Now, it has become a celebration of cultures all over the world. It is becoming a point of convergence of world cinema.
If these short films enjoy good reception, they may be awarded the Golden Mango Award, confirming its contribution to cross cultural awareness and education about various cultures. Ambulancia won the first prize during the Viva-Pinoy Box Office Digitales while Shorts got the third prize.
Ambulancia is the story of an ambulance driver who believes that running over stray animals on the streets could help a dying patient aboard the ambulance. This film has been entered into several digital film contests all over the world including the 32nd Open Air Filmfest Weiterstadt in Germany, the Pyongyang International Film Festival in North Korea, International Panorama of Independent Films and Naoussa International Film Festival in Greece. It was also shown at the Asian Film Academy Fellows’ Night in South Korea, Young Cinema Night of the 2007 Cinemanila International Film Festival, and the CineVita filmfest at the University of Sto. Tomas. It has certainly gone through a lot of festivals.
On the other hand, Shorts is a kind of “mockumentary,” about the life of a young copywriter and production designer who seems to have snapped. He has a habit of making his new shorts dirty.
I wish I could get some access to these films!
