Back at the Gym
At long last after almost three weeks of hiatus, I went to the gym yesterday and did my exercises and a little bit of weigh-lifting. After mulling over it for the longest time and weighing the costs against the benefits, I decided to enroll at a gym located in SM North EDSA. The gym that I enrolled to is affordable and its equipments are good enough for my purpose.
Why did I decide to shell out my precious money and enroll to the gym? To become macho papa and aesthetically appealing? To look at pretty girls working out at the gym? Or simply to waste my money?
Although the reasons above are compelling, they aren’t my reasons. Well, at least not when I initially joined. Heheh.
I had several reasons actually in enrolling at the gym. For one, my life as a freelance writer requires that I sit in front of the computer for four to eight hours all day (and sometimes, all night, too). I am living a very sedentary lifestyle and it shows with my bulging middle. Although everyone has a stomach, mine was like screaming to be noticed each time I wear a rather tight-fitting shirt. Sigh.
Secondly, I’m afraid that two-three months from now, I can no longer fit in my pants. It’s too expensive to buy a new set of wardrobe so instead of buying new ones, I’d rather use what I have and work at trimming my abs, or whatever it is called right now. Blame it to the movie 300. The members of King Leonidas’s army all had six-pack and eight-pack abs. Their bodies were good and they seemed as fit as the horses that bore the weight of their opponents. Too ba, I didn’t realize until lately that exercise is actually good for me.
My third reason concerns the secluded life of a freelance writer. Because of my job, I’m often typing in front of my computer in our apartment. During busy days and weeks, the only people I ever see are my girlfriend Cha, and my housemates–Eufer, Earlie, Mae, and Aaron, and recently my sister. Well, they all have their lives to live, too and schedules to keep, so sometimes we just see each other without talking much about our lives. At least when I go to the gym, I get to be where other people are.
Lastly, I’ve got money to pay for the gym so I can afford it. Naah… Seriously, I thought about the importance of being active and engaging in physical activity. True enough, my brains are working to the max when I am writing and reading yet, the body housing the brain should also get the proper exercise it deserves. Otherwise, I might become chubbier and beat Sam Milby in his most recent movie.
I spend around 40 minutes to 2 hours in the gym. I just do my routines, take a shower, and then walk around the mall and take a look at the latest product offerings of shops.
So far, I’m enjoying my time at the gym. There’s no noticeable change yet in my body but perhaps after a few months, you’ll see.
