A whopping $90 million dollars is the budget for the remake of the 1973 Papillon Movie, which featured Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen as criminals who were on the move to escape from the French penal colony Devil’s Island located in Latin America. As of this writing, there are still no actors chosen for the roles in the movie. No screenwriter yet, and more importantly, there’s no director yet.

It’s just on the drawing board yet, and we might have to wait for further developments for this movie.
Atlanta Canarias, a production company in Spain, has already approached Henri Charriere, whose autobiography served as the basis of the original 1973 Papillon. Producers Branko Lustig and John J. Kelly have been approached by the producers to take charge of this Papillon remake. Lustig is best remembered for movies such as American Gangster and Gladiator. Kelly, on the other hand has into the Wild and the Black Dahlia as part of his movie portfolio.

Roger Ebert wasn’t very impressed with the movie when it came out in 1973. He felt that the story line was just so thin and that it was simply over when the heroes have escaped from the prison facility. With a $90 million budget this time, let us hope that we’d get better treatment.
